Cllr Wayne Fitzgerald has been re-elected as Leader of the Conservative Group on Peterborough City Council, following the group’s Annual General Meeting in May 2025.
A longstanding and respected local councillor, Wayne represents West ward and has served the people of Peterborough with commitment and determination for over 20 years. He is widely recognised for his firm leadership, deep understanding of local issues, and unwavering focus on delivering for residents.
Wayne previously held the role of Leader of Peterborough City Council, where he led the city through key regeneration and infrastructure programmes, promoted housing growth, and drove improvements in vital council services. His tenure saw Peterborough secure millions in government funding and strengthen its reputation as a forward-thinking and ambitious city.
In addition to his council responsibilities, Wayne also serves as Deputy Chair Political within the Peterborough Conservative Association, helping to guide local strategy, candidate development, and campaign activity across the city.
As Group Leader, Wayne continues to be a strong voice for Conservative values in local government – championing low taxes, efficient services, and a council that works hard for the people it represents.
