Cllr Alex Rafiq – City Councillor for Paston & Walton, and Deputy Chair of Membership, Peterborough Conservative Association
Cllr Alex Rafiq has now completed his first year as the elected Conservative Councillor for Paston & Walton. Elected in the 2024 Local Elections by a narrow margin of just six votes, Alex has quickly established himself as a dedicated and proactive representative for his community.
A Year of Action and Advocacy
In his inaugural year, Alex has been instrumental in securing tangible improvements for local residents, including:
- Free Bulky Waste Collection: Organising a free bulky waste collection event in March 2025, providing residents with an opportunity to dispose of large items at no cost.
- Support for Local Youth: Visiting the Peterborough Police Amateur Boxing Club to commend its positive impact on local youth, promoting discipline and resilience.
- Community Engagement: Collaborating with former MP Paul Bristow to address issues such as incorrect parking charges affecting local businesses, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the local economy.
- Advocacy for Pensioners: Proposing a motion at Full Council to review the means-testing of the Winter Fuel Allowance, highlighting his dedication to supporting vulnerable residents.
Leadership Beyond the Council Chamber
Beyond his council duties, Alex serves as the Deputy Chair of Membership for the Peterborough Conservative Association. In this capacity, he plays a pivotal role in engaging with members, fostering community involvement, and strengthening the association's presence across the city.
