The Peterborough Labour administration is facing mounting pressure over its plans that could see the closure of the much-loved Industrial Hub—a vital facility supporting adults with learning difficulties. Local residents, campaigners, and Conservative representatives have united in their message: this centre must be saved.
The Industrial Hub has long been a place of empowerment, providing structured support, work-based learning, and a sense of purpose for adults with learning disabilities. It is more than just a building—it’s a community that helps individuals thrive with dignity and independence.
Yet, this life-changing service is now under threat due to council funding cuts. It’s a stark reminder that politics is about choices, and any choice that results in the Industrial Hub closing is simply the wrong one.
Our Conservative Mayoral Candidate Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow, stood alongside campaigners and said:
“It was amazing to meet the incredible people who make the Industrial Hub such a special place. The campaigners deserve answers—not silence. They should be told exactly how much funding is needed to save the Hub, and no stone should be left unturned to find it. The Council must be honest and transparent with the facts.
“The Industrial Hub is a shining example of how we should be supporting people with learning difficulties—by giving them meaningful opportunities and a place where they feel valued. I was proud to join campaigners and hear their stories. The council should be enabling this kind of success, not threatening to take it away. We must keep the Hub open.”
