The Peterborough Conservative group offer our thanks to Peterborough residents for their resounding support of our new Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority Mayor, Paul Bristow. Paul needed no introduction in Peterborough after his time serving the city as an MP, and we are delighted the city put their faith in Paul again to be their Combined Authority Mayor. Paul’s vote stood up well across the region in a campaign that was full of a clear vision and policy.
We’d like to thank all the volunteers who put in hours of hard work on the doorsteps sharing our positive message and vision. Paul Bristow is already at Pathfinder House meeting key officers and staff at the Combined Authority, working on getting his manifesto put into action.
Paul’s exciting vision includes plans to dual our A-Roads, have better connectivity with faster trains, end the war on the motorist across the region, freezing the mayoral precept, supporting free parking in our city centre and a new city stadium which would also offer a concert stadium and swimming facilities, bringing vital infrastructure to Peterborough and helping to regenerate our city.
We send our commiserations to Andy Coles, our Candidate in the Barnack Ward and thank everyone who supported him. Congratulations to Barnack's new Councillor Kevin Tighe. We watch with interest to see if he stands by his elected mandate as an independent Councillor.
The Conservative Group held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday where Councillor Wayne Fitzgerald was re-elected as Leader, with Councillor Steve Allen as Deputy Group Leader. Councillor John Howard was elected as Policy Chair and Press Officer, Councillor Lynne Ayres Group Secretary, Councillor Rylan Ray as Chief Whip, and Councillor Arfan Khan as Treasurer. All appointments were uncontested and unanimously approved.
The Conservative group note the mixture of votes across the region in the mayoral election, and we look forward to convincing more residents to support Conservatives at the next round of elections. We will do this with our behaviour and vision in the Council, and through the policy that Paul will deliver through his Mayorship. Peterborough Council politics are increasingly fractured, and we will offer a strong credible alternative to ensure support to vote Conservative at the next round of elections. Thanks to everyone for their support.
