A new Youth Employment Hub is set to open at London Road, home of Peterborough United, providing young people aged 16-24 with vital support to move into employment, further study, or training.
The initiative is led by Conservative Mayor Paul Bristow in partnership with Peterborough United, the Peterborough United Foundation, EFL in the Community, Jobcentre Plus, and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority. The hub will bring together careers advice, skills training, mental health support and job-matching services, all under one roof.
Mayor Bristow said the hub will offer young people the resources and guidance they need to thrive: “It will provide the support they require to move into employment, further study or training.”
The hub responds to local challenges. Currently, 3.9% of 16-17 year olds in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are not in education, employment, or training (NEET), higher than the national average of 3.4%. By centralising support in a single location at the Weston Homes Stadium, the initiative aims to make services more accessible while inspiring young people through the community’s connection to football.
This project is part of the Youth Guarantee Trailblazer programme, with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough among only eight regions nationally selected to lead this innovative approach. By creating a dedicated space for young people, the hub hopes to equip the next generation with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to succeed.
Mayor Bristow’s leadership in this initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between local government, community organisations and the private sector in tackling youth unemployment and building a stronger future for Peterborough’s young people.
