06/01/10 - Jackson meets Heritage Lottery Fund to discuss Flag Fen

Local MP Stewart Jackson has today met with the Chief Executive of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), Carole Souter, to discuss a number of issues, including, and most importantly, the future of Flag Fen.

Following the meeting Mr Jackson was pleased to have secured a number of undertakings from the HLF regarding Flag Fen:

  • That the HLF would liaise with Peterborough City Council and the Flag Fen Trust over funding problems
  • That the HLF would assist the aforementioned organisations in creating a business plan for the future.
  • That the HLF would offer its in-house expertise in any ways it could to allow Flag Fen to become financially viable

Following the meeting, Stewart commented:

“The Flag Fen site is one of the finest of its kinds in Europe and is a major local tourist attraction.

“I am delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund took such a close interest in the facility when I met them.

“I'm sure that the Fund can be of significant assistance to both the local council and the Flag Fen trustees.”
